LEM Products .75 HP Stainless Steel Electric Meat Grinder Review
I've been looking for a grinder to replace the tiny one that attaches to my kitchen aid mixer. That one does work but it requires a lot of time to grind even a small amount. I had picked out two other grinders before I found this one. Things I looked for was stainless steel construction and an honest power rating. I didn't like the idea that so many grinders need their parts pampered and kept out of the dishwasher. I also am dismayed when grinders claim to be 2200 or 3000 watts when they obviously are nowhere close to that rating. I ended up looking for #12 grinders with about a 3/4 HP motor. This one fit the bill. The one feature that really sold me was the auger design. See the LEM website to see what I mean: [...]This feels like an industrial machine. It is heavy. Is is big. Much of the weight is due to the motor and gear assembly. I'm guessing that it must weigh in around 40 pounds. The grinder, accessories, box and packaging weigh about 46#.) And I was happy to find they didn't scrimp on the accessories. The grinding plates are all stainless steel as is the grinder knife. I expect it to last well past my life.
I like LEM's design philosophy. If you look around, all their grinders look very similar. I'm guessing that they use the same enclosure for many different models, thus saving design and build costs. Very smart.
Now, the confusing part is why is this being sold for this price. Mine was just under $200 with $16 shipping. Looks like now the price is listed $30 higher. But this is much cheaper than the $340 to $390 this grinder usually sells for. And then, just to make sure you're paying attention, they use the picture of a food smoker with this product. Very strange. But what a deal. It will probably be a couple weekends before I can give it a good workout. I'll update this post after that.
But from a first glance, this is an outstanding deal for a well-made piece of equipment.
There was one small problem when I opened the box. I noticed a rattle when I was picking up unit and shook out a nut and then found a small bolt in the box. Looks like part of the motor mount. I'll talk to LEM but it looks like a simple operation to take off the cover and install the bolt.
