GrillPro 35050 Deluxe Stainless-Steel Spit Roaster and Charcoal Grill Review
When the unit arrived, I was pleased to see that it was well constructed and a very good looking machine to boot.The first time I used the machine, I roasted a 50 lb pig.
Less than an hour into the cooking phase, the motor stopped running.
Fortunately I had a friend who is an electrician close at hand. He said that the motor and capacitor had overheated. The reason for this is because the manufacturer located the motor too close to the fire tray and the hot Florida summer sun didn't help the problem.
We allowed the motor and capacitor to cool off and were glad to find that the motor worked once again.
We retro fitted a screen (stainless steel) between the motor and fire tray. This has worked for the last couple of times that I've used the machine.
I would recommend that the manufacturer either fit a heat screen between the motor and fire tray (as I did) or remodel the unit by extending the motor further away from the fire tray.
The pigs that I've cooked have been a great success. Clean up is easy and the stainless steel structure seems at this point to be sturdy.
I would have rated the item as an easy five star except for the issue of the motor placement which results in overheating (especially in the hot Florida summer sun)
I would recommend purchasing the unit ONLY if you are handy and can retro fit the heat screen yourself, or if the manufacturer remodels the motor location further from the fire tray.

I use this unit at my restaurant outdoor area on Sundays so I purchased a second unit as a back up and have had the same problem with the motor so this is definitely a design flaw. As posted previously, a heat screen and a fan blowing on the motor seem to work although this is obviously highly inconvenient. Additionally, someone has to have eyes on the pig, lamb or whatever it is that is cooking because if the rotisserie stops while the meat is cooking, it will be burned and ruin your day. Unfortunately I must change my rating of the unit to one star until the flaw is rectified.
