A Cancer Prevention Guide for the Human Race Review
I realize that it may seem oxymoronic to mention "scientifically-based" and "easy-to-read" in the same sentence, but this is precisely what Dr. Wascher has managed to achieve in this excellent book. After performing an exhaustive review of the best research available on the subject of cancer prevention, Dr. Wascher has largely avoided "doctor talk" in discussing those prevention methods which have been established to be worthwhile, those which have been largely invalidated, and those which may still offer promise, but have not yet been proven.The first two chapters include a general discussion of cancer, to include an alarming review of cancer incidence and its impact on individual lives and entire populations. The following ten chapters review potential avenues for cancer prevention, to include lifestyle choices, diet, dietary supplements, and environmental factors. The last four chapters provide a detailed discussion of the three cancers responsible for the majority of cancer deaths in the United States; lung cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer. As a thoracic (chest) surgeon, I particularly appreciated the chapter on lung cancer. Every chapter is clearly and concisely written, with an abundance of useful knowledge for physicians, and particularly for the patients they strive to serve.
I have known Dr. Wascher for the past 20 years, and have always recognized his keen interest in the care of patients with cancer, and his commitment to scientific excellence. I read his book due to our long acquaintance, but am offering this review and my 5-star rating entirely because it is so well deserved. I have already recommended Dr. Wascher's book to friends and family, and will continue to do so. I cannot imagine anyone who reads this book not gleaning useful tips on how they may pursue a healthier lifestyle, and thereby greatly diminish the risk of developing this dreaded disease. Kudos, Dr. Wascher; excellent work!
